Short answer
Prysm iO is a handheld Nu Skin wellness device that measures carotenoid antioxidants in your skin with a 15 second fingertip scan. It gives you a Prysm Score you can track over time as you change your diet, lifestyle and supplements.
Frequently asked questions
What is Prysm iO?
Prysm iO is a small handheld wellness device from Nu Skin that measures carotenoid levels in your skin with a 15 second fingertip scan. It turns the reading into a single number, the Prysm Score, and an app gives feedback on how your diet, lifestyle and supplements are supporting your antioxidant levels.
How does Prysm iO work?
You rest a fingertip on the lens. The device shines light into the skin and records how carotenoids absorb it. Nu Skin calls this Spectral Rai technology. It captures more than 70,000 hyperspectral absorption measurements per scan, and an AI algorithm converts them into your Prysm Score. The algorithm draws on a database of more than 20 million antioxidant scans collected with Nu Skin's earlier scanners. More on the Prysm Score.
What does the Prysm Score actually measure?
It measures carotenoids in the skin. Carotenoids are antioxidant pigments from colourful fruit and vegetables, such as beta carotene, lycopene and lutein. Skin carotenoid levels are a well studied marker of how much of these foods and nutrients you take in, and they track blood carotenoid levels. The score is a marker of carotenoid antioxidant status, not a measure of every antioxidant in the body.
How long does a Prysm iO scan take?
About 15 seconds. There is no blood draw, no lab visit and no preparation.
Is the scan safe? Does it hurt?
The scan is non invasive and painless. It uses light on the surface of your fingertip. Nothing breaks the skin.
How accurate is Prysm iO?
In a lab study led by dermatologist Dr Zoe Draelos, Prysm iO readings were strongly and consistently linked to participants' blood carotenoid levels. In a randomised, double blind, placebo controlled study of 46 adults, a Prysm iO prototype tracked carotenoid changes in line with Nu Skin's BioPhotonic Scanner S3. Most of the Prysm iO specific research so far is sponsored by Nu Skin. Independent research on skin carotenoid scanning in general, mostly with Raman and reflection spectroscopy devices, is extensive. See the research.
Does Prysm iO measure biological age?
No. Prysm iO measures skin carotenoids, which reflect antioxidant intake and status. It does not calculate biological age. Many longevity clinics use it alongside other tests because oxidative stress is one of the factors linked to how we age.
Can Prysm iO diagnose a disease or deficiency?
No. Prysm iO is a wellness device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you have a health concern, speak to your doctor.
How often should I scan?
Skin carotenoids change over weeks, not days. Studies on carotenoid scanning usually look at changes over 6 to 12 weeks. Scanning every 4 to 8 weeks is a sensible rhythm for tracking whether a change in diet or supplements is working.
How can I raise my Prysm Score?
Eat more deeply coloured fruit and vegetables (carrots, sweet potato, tomatoes, red peppers, spinach, kale, mango), eat them with a little fat because carotenoids are fat soluble, avoid smoking, and look after sleep and stress. Nu Skin also certifies certain supplements, such as LifePak and g3, as clinically shown to raise the score. Full guide.
Who makes Prysm iO?
Nu Skin Enterprises, based in Provo, Utah. It builds on more than 20 years of carotenoid measurement work by Nu Skin's Pharmanex division, which created the BioPhotonic Scanner.
Is Prysm iO the same as the Pharmanex BioPhotonic Scanner?
No. The BioPhotonic Scanner reads the palm with blue laser light using resonance Raman spectroscopy and gives a Skin Carotenoid Score. Prysm iO is a much smaller fingertip device using hyperspectral absorption and an AI algorithm. Full comparison.
How does Prysm iO compare to the Veggie Meter?
Both scan the fingertip for skin carotenoids. The Veggie Meter from Longevity Link uses pressure mediated reflection spectroscopy and is widely used in nutrition research. Prysm iO is a compact consumer and clinic device with an app and a supplement ecosystem. Full comparison.
Is Prysm iO available in Europe and the UK?
Nu Skin launched Prysm iO to consumers in the US in April 2026 and is rolling it out to its other markets. It is sold through Nu Skin brand affiliates and is already being used by clinics and practitioners in the UK and across Europe. Ask me about availability in your country.
How much does Prysm iO cost?
Pricing differs by country and by how you buy, as a personal user or as a clinic. Get in touch for current pricing where you live.
Can clinics and practitioners use Prysm iO?
Yes. Aesthetic clinics, nutritionists, longevity doctors, chiropractors and dentists use it to start conversations about nutrition and oxidative stress and to track client progress over time. Prysm iO for clinics.
Where can I get a Prysm iO scan?
See the Prysm scan directory for Valencia, London and other locations, or book a scan with me directly.
Who runs PrysmScanner.net?
Daniel Norell, an independent Nu Skin brand affiliate based in Valencia, Spain, with more than 20 years in the business. I help people and clinics across Europe get started with Prysm iO. This is not the official Nu Skin website.
